The Ladder Presents: Bills Attic

Step into Bill’s Attic, an immersive all-ages adventure through stories, objects and imagination inspired by the legacy of Cornish theatre.

Discover the stories hidden in Bill’s Attic in this brand new immersive performance for all ages, written by acclaimed Cornish playwright Carl Grose.

Step inside The Ladder in Redruth and explore an atmospheric world inspired by the life and legacy of visionary theatre-maker Bill Mitchell, the creative force behind WildWorks and Kneehigh. Bill’s Attic is a curated archive of objects, ideas and imaginative fragments that capture the heart of Cornwall’s storytelling and creative traditions.

This immersive performance brings to life three interlinked stories inspired by the contents and spirit of the Attic. Each tale explores imagination, memory, place and performance, building into a rich and layered experience that celebrates the history of Cornish theatre and creativity.

With playful storytelling, striking visuals and a strong connection to Cornwall’s cultural heritage, this performance invites audiences of all ages to explore, imagine and discover something new together. The experience has been created with Key Stage 2 pupils in mind, but is suitable for younger children, families and curious adults alike. 

About the playwright: Carl Grose, born in Truro, is known for his inventive and compelling storytelling. He worked with Kneehigh Theatre for over fifteen years and is co-founder of the Cornish theatre and film company o-region.

About the project: This performance is part of a wider collaboration between The Ladder, Sue Hill, The Writers’ Block, Falmouth University and Creative Kernow and is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Arts Council England.
