It runs at The Ladder in Redruth and is delivered in partnership with Young People Cornwall. The work brings together younger men and older men into the same group and holds that group over time.
Sessions take place twice a month. They are led by Sam Crosby, a storyteller and facilitator whose practice centres on group work with men, using story, reflection and shared process. A Young People Cornwall wellbeing practitioner is present to support the work and ensure it is held safely.
The sessions use oral storytelling as the starting point. From there, the group works through discussion, reflection and shared experience. The focus is on confidence, connection and emotional awareness, and on giving people a way to place their own experiences alongside the stories they are hearing.
The programme is structured in three blocks of four sessions. People join a block rather than committing to the full six months. Some will continue into the next block, others won’t. The group remains consistent within each block.
We believe that there is a real need for moments of ritual and mythmaking in our lived especially at transitional moments, especially in a world that can seem chaotic. This programme will create a space for men to connect and explore how the stories we tell can shape the lives we lead. We reject that the only masculinity is toxic masculinity.
At the end of the programme, at the end of each block we will present a small public sharings at The Ladder. These bring the group into contact with a wider audience and mark the end of the process.
